Battaash takes on seven in Nunthorpe

Supremacy, ante-post favourite for Friday’s Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Gimcrack Stakes (2.45), was a surprise absentee from the declarations for the race on Wednesday.

Earlier this week, trainer Clive Cox had nominated the York Group 2 as an option for the dazzling Richmond Stakes winner with unfavourable heavy ground in Deauville forcing him out of Sunday’s Group 1 Prix Morny.

Supremacy had been installed as the 9-4 market leader but did not feature among the ten declared runners. His absence leaves Minzaal, Yazaman and Mystery Smiles among the leading players in the race.

Ace sprinter Battaash will take on seven rivals in his quest to record back-to-back Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes (3.15) victories, with key rivals Art Power and A’Ali also among the declarations.

The Charlie Hills-trained sprinter, a blistering winner of the King’s Stand and King George this season, is a general 1-2 chance for the Group 1 but in Art Power he faces a new challenger. Read more.
